The Global Memory Project began when artist John Torres was watching a documentary on WWII and came to a terrifying realization. While viewing an interview with a veteran in his 90's he was initially relieved that history had captured this hero's story.
But relief soon turned to fear when he considered the millions of people who die every year...without history recording their unique stories. On that day, the Global Memory Project was born.
Every day, it is estimated that 150,000 people died. With each of them, goes countless stories and testimonies about their lives, and about their unique place in history.
With the advent of modern technology, everyday people are equipped to become tomorrows historians and journalists. No longer is the vital documentation of our history and culture the responsibility of a few select historians and documentary makers. It is our hope that the GMP can help catalyze a new generation of thinking, in which each of us contributes to the preservation and documentation of the human story!
GET OUT THERE AND START!!
